The Saic H5 new energy crossover received 80,000 orders in China 14 days after its domestic pre-sales began. This SUV is co-developed by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation and Huawei. Priced at 169,800 yuan (23,800 USD), this vehicle boasts a 4,780 mm length and BEV & EREV powertrain variants.

The domestic name of the new Saic brand is Shangjie. It is a part of Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) ecosystem that includes such brands as Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, and Maextro. Previously, we called this brand “Shangjie” because its official English name wasn’t disclosed.

It was apparently revealed that the new brand’s international name is SAIC. This naming coincides with the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), which is responsible for the platform development and manufacturing of the H5 crossover. To distinguish one SAIC from another, CarNewsChina decided to write the name of the HIMA-associated brand with lower-case letters, while the manufacturing company will continue to be written with capital letters.

Saic H5 80,000 orders

On September 8, Saic officials disclosed that the H5 crossover got 80,000 orders after the presales had started in China. This SUV became available for reservation on August 25. It took Saic H5 14 days to reach the 80,000 orders milestone. It is a decent pace. However, most of these orders (50,000) were placed within the first 18 hours.

Previously, Saic officials shared that the cumulative booking number will influence the cash discount for the H5. The 50,000 orders benchmark results in a 1,000 yuan (140 USD) price reduction. Hitting 100,000 orders would lower the final price for booking users by 2,000 yuan (280 USD). And getting over 150,000 orders would result in a 3,000 yuan (420 USD) discount. This vehicle will start sales on September 23. The starting presales price of the Saic H5 is 169,800 yuan (23,800 USD).
