The GWM Ora Cat was exposed by the Chinese ministry as the brand’s newest SUV. It is the first new Ora model since 2022. The Ora Cat follows the design language of the brand’s bestseller Ora Funky Cat (Ora 03). There is a chance that the new crossover will sell overseas under the Ora 5 name.

Ora is an all-electric car brand under Great Wall Motor, founded in 2018. However, the automaker from Baoding made some mistakes that diluted the company’s profits, including the foundation of the Ole Sharing car sharing service and the launch of two unprofitable models called Black Cat and White Cat. In 2022, Ora made a mistake once again by launching two models in limited market segments: the Beetle-alike Ballet Cat and the Panamera-resembling Lightning Cat (Ora 07).

Since then, Ora hasn’t launched any new models. The brand’s sales volume declined to just 14,781 units from January to August 2025 (China EV DataTacker data). In the summer this year, Ora announced a comeback to the market. GWM plans to launch four new models in the short term. On September 10, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) disclosed information about the newest Ora SUV during a domestic homologation process.

More about GWM Ora Cat

The new model got the GWM Ora Cat name. However, MIIT listed two alternative name variants: Ora 5 and Ora i5. It seems that this vehicle will sell domestically as Ora Cat. However, its international name will align with other global models. The new SUV will sit between the Ora 03 hatchback and the Ora 07 fastback.

GWM Ora Cat / Ora 5

The Ora Cat aligns with the Ora 03 in terms of exterior styling. It adopts a cute styling with circular headlights, a closed front end with a large trapeze-shaped air intake, short bumpers, traditional door handles, and a single taillight strip. Other design highlights include a charging port in the front right fender, roof rails, an optional LiDAR sensor, and 18-inch wheels.

Dimensions of the Ora Cat are 4471/1883/1641 mm with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. For clarity, it is 5 mm longer than the Volkswagen Taos (Tharu) SUV. Approach and departure angles of the cat are 17 and 25 degrees, respectively. The car’s curb weight is 1,630 – 1,655 kg, depending on the equipment.

GWM Ora Cat / Ora 5 optional equipment

The Ora Cat adopts a single QT36TZ220001 electric motor from the GWM subsidiary Hycet. Its peak power reaches 150 kW (201 hp). This e-motor is powered by an SVOLT-made LFP battery. Its capacity has yet to be revealed. The top speed of the Ora Cat reaches 170 km/h. More information about the Ora Cat as we get it.
