Stellantis-backed Chinese automaker Leapmotor produced the 1 millionth car in China on September 25, 2025. It took six years to achieve this milestone. However, Leapmotor produced 500,000 vehicles in 343 days, marking an acceleration of the production pace.
Leapmotor is a new energy vehicle manufacturer that was founded in 2017. Its first car rolled off the production line in June 2019. Five years later, Leapmotor reported that it had manufactured the 500,000th vehicle. Last year, one of the world’s biggest automotive groups, Stellantis, partly acquired Leapmotor. The Chinese company used it as a boost, accelerating production volume and overseas presence.
Leapmotor 1 millionth car
Leapmotor manufactured the 1 millionth car on September 25, 2025. It took this automaker 343 days to jump from 500,000 produced vehicles to 1 million units. According to Leapmotor officials, it is the fastest production milestone for a Chinese emerging automaker. Moreover, Leapmotor founder, chairman, and CEO Zhi Jiangming shared that the company aims to produce the next 1 million cars next year.
In August 2025, Leapmotor sold 57,066 vehicles globally. According to China EV DataTracker, 51,162 units were delivered in China. From January to August 2025, Leapmotor sold over 320,000 units worldwide, with 289,732 cars handed over to owners in China. The brand’s domestic model line comprises seven cars. This year, the eighth model – a hatchback Lafa 5 (B05) – will enter the market.

Nowadays, Leapmotor actively explores overseas markets, targeting Europe. Last year, the Grande Tianjin vessel was built in China as a part of a strategic cooperation between Leapmotor and Grimaldi Lines logistics company. It is capable of carrying 9,241 vehicles onboard. This project will further accelerate Leapmotor’s overseas sales.
Currently, Leapmotor has established nearly 700 integrated sales and service outlets in over 30 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific. In August, Leapmotor surpassed BYD to take the top spot in the German pure electric vehicle market.
