BYD officially announced the launch of its 2026 Seal 06 DM-i mid-size sedan today, introducing two configurations priced at 96,800 yuan (13,600 USD) and 106,800 yuan (15,000 USD).

Built on the same platform as the Qin L, the Seal 06 DM-i adopts BYD’s latest “Ocean Series” design language. Its front fascia features a closed grille complemented by a large lower intake. At the rear, the vehicle boasts a through-type taillight design, with water-drop shaped central taillight units on both sides, enhanced by a darkened lower bumper.

Inside, the Seal 06 DM-i continues the “Ocean Family” theme, incorporating curved designs on the door panels and seat surfaces. The interior is equipped with a full LCD instrument cluster and a large 15.6-inch central control screen. The gear shift area features a circular design with a compact, refined toggle-style shifter, surrounded by various function buttons.

In terms of dimensions, the Seal 06 DM-i measures 4830mm in length, 1875mm in width, and 1495mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2790mm.

Under the hood, the new Seal 06 DM-i is powered by a plug-in hybrid system featuring BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology. This system combines a 1.5L engine with an electric motor. The engine delivers a maximum power output of 74 kilowatts and a peak torque of 126 N·m. The electric motor boasts a maximum power of 218 horsepower, enabling a pure electric range of 128 kilometres.

Editor’s comment

The BYD Seal 06 DM-i 2025 model, released last year, was the first vehicle to utilise BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology. This model was available in two range options: one with an 80 km all-electric range and another with a 120 km all-electric range.

Last month, China raised the technical threshold for its new energy vehicle purchase tax exemption, now requiring hybrid models to have an all-electric range exceeding 100 km to qualify for the corresponding tax relief. Consequently, the Seal 06 model from last year, with its sub-100 km all-electric range, will cease production.
