The world’s biggest EV maker BYD provided 130 new energy cars to the Thirteenth UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil to underline its effort in ensuring low-carbon transportation development. The car maker’s GM of the Brazil branch delivered a speech during the event.

BYD is a well-known Chinese automaker that stopped mass-producing ICE cars in 2022 in a strategic switch towards PHEV and BEV models only. The company rapidly became the biggest Chinese automaker and the world’s biggest EV maker. BYD officials claim that their long-term goal is to cool the Earth by 1 degree Celsius by reducing emissions.

BYD and COP30

The Thirteenth Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) was held in Belem, Brazil, from November 10 to November 21. BYD became the official partner of the conference. It provided 130 new energy vehicles for the global event. Most of them were King DM-i (Destroyer 05 / Chaser / Chazor) plug-in hybrid sedans. They provided low-carbon shuttle services for participating heads of state and guests.

On November 17, Li Tie, general manager of the BYD Brazil branch, attended the event with a speech. He highlighted that the popularization of new energy vehicles is the core path of carbon reduction in the field of transportation. In recent years, BYD promoted the transition of millions of ICE vehicle owners to electric cars due to DM plug-in hybrid and megawatt charging technologies. The company hopes to work with the global society to decrease carbon emissions.

BYD opened the new store in Belem during the COP30. Bahia Governor Jeronimo Rodrigues, Civil Affairs Minister Rui Costa, Tourism Minister Celso Sabino, and other Brazilian officials attended the opening ceremony. In July 2025, the BYD plant in Camacari, Bahia, started mass production. The Dolphin Mini (Seagull / Dolphin Surf / Atto 1) became the first mass-produced car. Other vehicles assembled in Brazil are the Song Pro crossover and the King sedan.

In the future, BYD aims to provide systematic solutions for global low-carbon development, including low-carbon energy acquisition, storage, and application. As mentioned, these steps would help the company move towards the goal of cooling the Earth by 1 degree Celsius.
