The Luxeed V9 minivan from Huawei and Chery will become the first mass-produced car with a helmet airbag integrated in seats. The new car will enter the domestic market in spring 2026, positioned as a technical flagship.

Luxeed is a joint brand between Huawei and Chery, launched in 2023 as a part of the HIMA alliance. Its current model line comprises two models with BEV & EREV powertrain variants: the S7 sedan and the R7 SUV. According to China EV DataTracker, Luxeed delivered 81,391 units from January to November 2025. Next year, this brand will launch the new flagship model. It is the Luxeed V9 minivan.

Niche blogger Hai Daxing ECC reported on Weibo that the Luxeed V9 will feature the industry-first helmet airbag. According to her information, the car’s seats will be automatically pulled back to a safer position during a collision. At the same time, the helmet airbag will be deployed alongside side airbags.

The mentioned technology was first introduced by Yanfeng Automotive Interior Systems in 2023. This company supplies interior solutions to Volkswagen, GM, Toyota, BMW, Stellantis, BYD, GAC, Geely, and other automakers. The Yanfeng-developed seat adopts the large-angle reclining adjustment, rotation, and long-distance sliding.

Yanfeng experts focused the most on the seat’s safety. As a result, it adopts a pre-crash seat quick return to upright position system. It receives signals from ADAS, adjusting in advance. The seat has an integrated seat belt and a pre-embedded airbag. The latter deploys early in a lossion, reducing the occupants’ forward momentum to offset lumbar forces.

Previously, other Weibo bloggers also hinted that the Luxeed V9 will adopt the industry-first safety solutions. However, this information has yet to be officially confirmed.

More about the Luxeed V9

The Luxeed V9 minivan stands on the Chery-developed E0X (E0X-L) modular architecture. This platform underpins such cars as the Exlantix ET, the Exlantix ES, and Luxeed-branded models. The V9 has a stretched wheelbase and a body length of over 5.3 meters.

It was previously reported that the Luxeed V9 will adopt a Huawei-developed powertrain and headlights. It will also have large passenger screens, a roomy refrigerator, an oxygen concentrator, and a new 192-line LiDAR. The car will have two independent second-row seats with a zero-gravity function. Another highlight is an electric pop-up and soft-close front trunk.

The Luxeed V9 will adopt a high-voltage 800V system and Huawei’s Qiankun Advanced Driving System (ADS) solution. It is the L3-ready model. The Luxeed V9 will be available in both pure electric (EV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configurations. CATL will supply the batteries for both variants.
