New FAW-Toyota bZ3 all-electric sedan with lidar, Momenta 5.0 ADAS, BYD Blade battery launched in China, starts at 15,700 USD
On December 31st, the FAW-Toyota joint venture launched its bZ3 Smart Home Edition all-electric sedan in China, offering two trims:
- Joy: 109,800 yuan (15,700 USD), 517 km range
- Pro: 129,800 yuan (18,600 USD), 616 km range
The new car can be considered a refreshed version of the FAW-Toyota bZ3 model launched in 2024, featuring the introduction of the Momenta 5.0 assisted driving system, a lidar, and minor adjustments in exterior and interior design.
The FAW-Toyota bZ3 was first launched in 2023. Then another update in 2024 featuring L2 advanced driving assistance capabilities, but none were equipped with lidar. In November, the FAW-Toyota bZ3 sold 2,118 units in China.

The Smart Home Edition has a similar exterior design to the 2024 model, adopting Toyota’s latest “hammerhead shark” front fascia design and integrating a through-type style headlight cluster. A lidar is added on the roof. In the rear, the overall shape of the through-type taillight cluster remains unchanged, but the previous “Y” shape at both ends have been updated to a horizontal arrangement. Hidden door handles are still present.

A key highlight is the standard Momenta 5.0 advanced driver assistance system onboard the vehicle, which can realize more than 30 functions including urban NOA, highway NOA, and remote parking assist. The Momenta 5.0 is supported by 32 sensors, including one lidar, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 11 cameras, paired with a chip boasting 544 TOPS of computing power.

Positioned as a mid-size sedan, the vehicle’s dimensions remain unchanged: 4725/1835/1475 (1480) mm (l/w/h), with a wheelbase of 2880 mm. A new “Dark Cloud Green” exterior color is also offered.
The powertrain continues to use single-motor FWD. The Joy trim is equipped with a 135 kW (181 hp) electric motor and a 49.9 kWh BYD’s Blade (lithium iron phosphate) battery pack, offering a CLTC range of 517 km. The Pro trim ultilizes a 180 kW (241 hp) electric motor and a 65.3 kWh Blade battery pack, offering a CLTC range of 616 km.
Under DC fast charging mode, the battery can be recharged from 30% to 80% in as little as 27 minutes.

Inside, the cockpit has a 15.6-inch horizontal central control screen (previously was a 12.8-inch vertical screen), a rectangular narrow instrument cluster, and a conventional steering wheel. Ambient lighting and an AI voice assistant are present.
