The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 electric crossover with Xpeng tech on board rolled off the production line in China. This large BEV started to pile up at dealers with up to 370 kW (496 hp), 730 km of range, and a high-tech cabin.
The Volkswagen ID. Uniyx 08 is a mass-produced variant of the ID. Evo concept car, which was first introduced in April 2025 at the Shanghai Auto Show. This EV was co- developed by Volkswagen Anhui and Xpeng. Its high-voltage system elements and software components for connectivity and driver assistance come from the Chinese automaker.
Volkswagen officials call this vehicle the ID. UNYX 08 with upper case letters. However, we at CarNewsChina prefer to write its name in lowercase, as Unyx isn’t an acronym. We follow the same rule with other names like Nio, Luxeed, Stelato, Saic (Shangjie), etc.
Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 rolled off the production line
The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 officially rolled off the production line at the Volkswagen Anhui manufacturing plant in China. According to the German automaker, it took 24 months from signing the technology cooperation agreement to production.

Volkswagen Anhui was initially created as a 50:50 joint venture between Volkswagen and the ex-Nio manufacturer JAC in 2017. After an unsuccessful launch of the Sol E20X small hatchback, Volkswagen acquired the majority stake in the joint venture. In 2024, Volkswagen Anhui launched the ID. Unyx electric crossover, which also suffered from slow sales. The new ID. Unyx 08 crossover aims to improve the brand’s NEV sales performance.
At the same time, the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 started to pile up at dealers. These are most likely display vehicles not intended to be handed over to customers. The ID. Unyx 08 adopts the new design language with thin running lights, a closed front end, retractable door handles, and two LED taillight strips. The car’s cabin has a block of two screens, a two-spoke steering wheel, and 20 speakers.
