Volkswagen revealed the ID. Aura T6 crossover and the ID. Unyx 09 sedan electric cars developed for China. They will enter the market soon as the German automaker aims to solidify its position in the NEV segment by introducing over 20 products in this segment.
The ID. Aura is a series of electric cars developed by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture with an integration of the CEA electric and electronic architecture developed jointly by the German company and Xpeng. The ID. Unyx is a project of the Volkswagen Anhui company, which was initially founded in China as the JV between VW and the ex-Nio manufacturer JAC. On April 21, Volkswagen revealed new models for both new series.
More about the Volkswaen ID. Aura T6
The ID. Aura T6 is a mid-size crossover with a five-seat interior layout. This is the brand’s first vehicle with an integration of the CEA electronic architecture. It reportedly reduces the number of electronic control units by 30%. This architecture also supports AI-based cockpit systems, China-specific assisted driving functions, and OTA update capabilities.

The new crossover has a LiDAR-based assisted driving system from Carizon, a joint venture between Volkswagen Group and Horizon Robotics. Its body shape reminds us of the Volkswagen ID.6 model, which looked like a mix of an SUV and MPV. The ID. Aura T6 has short overhangs, a slightly curved roofline, and semi-hidden door handles. Its front end adopts split headlights with the running light strip resembling the recently revealed ID.3 Neo.

The ID. Aura T6 crossover adopts the BEV powertrain. Its dimensions and other specs have yet to be revealed. However, the brand’s officials shared that Aura will become a series of new energy vehicles, including battery electric cars, plug-in hybrids, and range extenders. More information about this model will be disclosed closer to the actual launch.
More about the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09
The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 is a flagship new energy sedan from the Volkswagen Anhui factory. It aligns with the previously launched ID. Unyx 08 crossover in terms of exterior styling. The sedan’s front end offers split headlights with two elongated DRLs. It seems that they are positioned too close to each other. The car has black stripes stretching from the front fenders to the doors, visually elongating the body.

The length of the ID. Unyx 09 is over 5 meters. It adopts hidden door handles, sculpted fenders, and a Face ID sensor in the B-pillar. Other features include a sleek roofline, headlamps integrated into the front bumper, thin taillight units, and illuminated badges. The new sedan will adopt the L2 assisted driving system capable of the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) function on urban roads and highways.

Similar to the ID. Aura T6, Volkswagen didn’t share any specific information about the flagship EV sedan. However, we expect it to adopt the same powertrain options as the ID. Unyx 08 crossover offers. The latter is available with two LFP battery options for 82 kWh and 95 kWh. RWD and AWD variants are available with power ranging from 230 kW (308 hp) to 370 kW (496 hp).

Volkswagen delivered 386,284 units in China, down 15.4% Year-Over-Year. The brand actively enters the new energy vehicle segment as the share of cars with internal combustion engines shrinks in China.
