The Chinese automotive company Dongfeng Motor, or DFM, plans to invest in the western province of İzmir, said the head of the city’s Chamber of Commerce on Monday.

“We expect such investment to take place shortly,” said Ekrem Demirtaş, the board chairman of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, or IZTO, speaking at a meeting that Yuanjiu Yu, chairperson of Chinese Wuhan Chamber of Trade, also attended.

Yu said to reporters that they wanted to update a cooperation protocol signed two years ago with IZTO and that the Chinese chamber is inviting Izmir businessmen to attend a business meeting to be held in China on Dec.26 and 28.

Demirtaş confirmed that a Turkish delegation from İzmir would attend the business meeting in China to cultivate old and new business bonds. DFM had made a decision last year to invest in İzmir. The talks are still underway with DFM for their investment. “We need to accelerate talks with DFM,” Demirtaş said.
