The Onvo L90 is over 5.1 meters long and nearly two meters wide. It has dual motors and a maximum output of 590 hp. The new EV will reportedly have its public debut next week at the Shanghai Auto Show.
Onvo is Nio’s entry-level brand. The L90 is its second car, after the L60 mid-size SUV, which is competing with the Tesla Model Y in China.
Today, the Chinese regulator under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MITT) disclosed Onvo L90’s first images in golden colour and without camo as the company applied for a sales license in China. No car can be sold in China without MIIT approval.
Automakers are usually not happy about MIIT disclosing the images and key specs ahead of the official launch, as it revealed some of their secrets. However, recently, many of them adapted to it, Nio included, and shared official images of L90 at the same time when MIIT published the regulatory filings of vehicles applying for a sales license. The reason is that MIIT pictures are usually not very flattering.
Thanks to the regulatory filing, we learned some key specs about L90. It is a large 6-seater SUV with dimensions 5145/1998/1766 mm (length/width/height) and wheelbase 3110 mm. The curb weight is 2,360 kg.
L90 is an AWD powered by two e-motors. One is mounted on the front axle with a peak power of 100 kw, and the second is on the rear axle with 340 kW a peak power. The combined maximum output is 440 kW (590 hp), and the top speed is limited to 200 km/h.
The car will drive on 20″ or optional 21″ wheels. The front overhang is 920 mm, and the rear overhang is 1115 mm.
According to the filing, the electricity will be stored in a ternary (NMC) or lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The capacity hasn’t been revealed yet, but like all Nio vehicles, L90 will support battery swap. The L90 will officially launch in the third quarter of the year.
Onvo sold 4,049 cars in March, way below its target of 20,000 units. As a result, Onvo’s CEO Alan Ai resigned and was replaced by the head of Nio Power, Shen Fei.
Nio Group has set a 2025 sales target of 440,000 units, including 220,000 from Onvo.
