Xiaomi is expected to unveil new automotive developments during founder Lei Jun’s annual speech on September 25, with attention now turning to a potential high-performance version of the YU7 SUV, according to Auto-home. Industry sources suggest the model may be named the YU7 GT, following the approach previously seen with the SU7 Ultra.

Recent spy photographs have shown a heavily camouflaged prototype of the YU7 testing at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. The test car featured a red-and-grey wrap, similar to that used by the SU7 Ultra during earlier trials. Observers noted wider front fenders, a more muscular rear section, and an overall wider stance compared with the standard YU7.

Reports indicate that the YU7 GT could adopt a tri-motor system similar to the SU7 Ultra, with a maximum output exceeding 1,000 horsepower. Although official details remain unconfirmed, the possibility of such a setup has fueled speculation about Xiaomi’s ambitions in the high-performance electric SUV segment.

Unofficial renderings inspired by the spy photos suggest a design incorporating more aggressive aerodynamic elements. These features include a prominent front splitter, a ventilated hood, black wheel arch extensions, and racing-style alloy wheels. At the rear, the concept renderings depict a large diffuser and a fixed rear wing, reflecting a motorsport-inspired aesthetic.

Earlier this year, Xiaomi’s automotive plans were reported to include three upcoming models: a long-wheelbase version of the SU7 sedan (SU7 L), the high-performance YU7 GT, and a range-extended vehicle codenamed “Kunlun.”

The high-performance SUV segment has recently attracted increased attention, with other brands, including Porsche, also testing new all-electric models at the Nürburgring. This has prompted speculation about potential lap-time comparisons between Xiaomi’s upcoming YU7 GT and established premium competitors.

Whether Xiaomi will reveal the YU7 GT during the September 25 event remains uncertain. However, the company has highlighted the importance of performance-oriented vehicles in its growing automotive strategy, suggesting further announcements are likely in the near future.
