The next Zeekr-branded plug-in hybrid SUV from Geely Group will start sales in China in Q1 2026 under the 9S name, according to a report. This model was previously rumored to be called 8X. It will officially break cover in China in January, priced at 450,000 yuan (64,025 USD).
Zeekr is a high-end brand owned by Geely Group. It initially produced only battery electric cars in China. However, this brand entered the PHEV segment this year with the Zeekr 9X flagship full-size SUV. Next year, Zeekr will launch the second model in its plug-in hybrid lineup. According to Autohome, it will enter the market as the Zeekr 9S.

The Chinese media reported that the Zeekr 9S is positioned as a smaller & sportier variant of the 9X. The new model retains the brand’s signature design language, featuring a large grille, two-story headlights, blackened rims, and a LiDAR sensor on the roof. The car adopts conventional door handles and side-view mirrors. The rear end has a split tailgate and a continuous taillight strip.
The interior of the Zeekr 9S offers a large touchscreen and a three-spoke steering wheel with a gear shifter mounted behind it. The center console has the Porsche Cayenne vibes with two curved grab handles. Doors could be opened by pressing a button. Previously, the Zeekr 9S was spotted in China with a six-seat 2+2+2 layout. However, this car is also expected to have a five-seat configuration.
The Zeekr 9S will likely adopt the same powertrain as the larger 9X. Its entry-level variant features a 2-liter turbocharged engine paired with two electric motors, producing 660 kW (885 hp). This variant offers two batteries for 55 kWh or 70 kWh. The top-trim Zeekr 9X boasts the same ICE and three e-motors for 1,030 kW (1,381 hp). The sportier Zeekr 9S will adopt a dual-chamber air suspension and an active 48V anti-roll bar.
As mentioned, the Zeekr 9S will debut in China next month. Its market launch is scheduled for Q1 2026. The 9S is expected to cost around 450,000 yuan (64,025 USD). For clarity, the Zeekr 9X SUV’s price range is 465,900 – 599,900 yuan (66,290 – 85,350 USD). According to China EV DataTracker, Zeekr delivered 12,569 units of the 9X SUV to clients from September to November 2025.
