Hidden flagship: GWM Chairman drops SUV teaser with Tank 700‑like profile
GWM Chairman Wei Jianjun released a teaser video on February 28 showing a covered SUV described as a “luxury flagship,” incorporating Kirin cultural branding and referencing the company’s Hi4-Z power-split technology. GWM has not officially named the vehicle, but its visible profile and MIIT filing specifications match the Tank 700 Hi4-Z, a plug-in hybrid variant recently submitted for homologation.
The teaser shows a squared-off silhouette consistent with the Tank 700 platform. A sensor housing on the roofline matches GWM’s Watchtower-style LiDAR configuration for advanced driver assistance. Ground clearance dimensions and body proportions confirm a body-on-frame off-road architecture. Autohome noted the front profile under the cover aligns with the existing Tank 700 design language.
MIIT filings detail the Tank 700 Hi4-Z powertrain. The system uses a decoupled four-wheel-drive layout, replacing a mechanical driveshaft with a high-output rear e-axle. A 185 kW 2.0-litre turbocharged engine combines with dual electric motors for a total system output of 715 kW. A 59.05 kWh ternary (NCM) lithium battery supplied by SVOLT provides a CLTC-rated electric range of 190 km and a homologated fuel consumption of 8.45 L/100km. DC fast charging reaches 163 kW, enabling a 30-80% charge in approximately 15 minutes. The vehicle measures 5105 mm long with a 3000 mm wheelbase.
The Tank 700 Hi4-Z enters the segment above the current Tank 700 Hi4-T, which starts at 428,000 yuan (59,030 USD). The Aito M9, a key competitor in the premium new energy SUV segment, recorded 31,021 retail registrations in January 2026 and features a 52 kWh battery with 365 kW of system power.
Separately, GWM filed the Wey V9X with MIIT earlier in February. The V9X is a six-seat luxury SUV measuring 5299 mm long with a 3150 mm wheelbase and a curb weight of 2890 kg. Badging options include “V9X” or “Yuanshan”. The model offers two SVOLT ternary lithium battery configurations: 53.6 kWh yielding 240 km CLTC range, and 77.7 kWh yielding 363 km CLTC range. The higher-capacity variant records a fuel consumption of 6.20 L/100km. Official images confirm a roof-mounted LiDAR unit. Towing capacity is rated at 2,000 kg. It is likely to be the first vehicle to use GWM One, the new automotive platform.
