Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 unveiled with Gen2 Golden Battery and 1,725 km range
Geely has unveiled the updated Galaxy Starshine 8 “Voyager series”, adding its new second-generation Golden Brick battery system and enhanced driver-assistance capabilities to its plug-in hybrid sedan, according to Y-Auto.
Battery and hybrid system upgrades
The update integrates the second-generation Golden Brick battery, which provides a pure-electric range of 225 km and a combined driving range of 1,725 km. The company also cites fuel consumption in the 3-litre range, although the test standard was not disclosed. Charging performance is rated at 75 kW, with the battery able to charge from 30 % to 80 % in 15 minutes. Geely states the battery supports more than 4,500 charge cycles.
The second-generation Golden Brick battery has only been announced for one other upcoming Geely Galaxy model, the Galaxy M7 midsize plug-in hybrid SUV, which is reported to achieve a pure-electric range of 225 km and a combined range of around 1,730 km. Specific technical details of the battery configuration in the Voyager series were not disclosed. The model continues to use Geely’s Leishen EM-i and EM-P hybrid systems, though motor output and drivetrain specifications were not disclosed.
Driver assistance and safety systems
The Voyager series introduces the Qianli Haohan H5 driver assistance system, supporting urban NOA functionality across full scenarios. According to the company, the system does not rely on high-definition maps or lane markings. The hardware suite consists of 27 sensors, including one lidar unit, three millimetre-wave radars, eleven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic radars. The system is designed to handle 22 complex driving scenarios and supports automated overtaking and voice-controlled lane changes.
A new external “blue light” indicator has been added to communicate system status. Standard safety features include a tyre blowout stability control system rated up to 160 km/h and AES emergency steering assist. Geely Galaxy has introduced the updated Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 “Voyager series”, adding a new battery system and updated driver-assistance capabilities to its plug-in hybrid sedan.
Product context
The Starshine 8 retains a large sedan footprint, with a body length exceeding 5 meters and a wheelbase close to 3 meters. New exterior colours include “Rizhao Gold” and “Danxia Mineral,” expanding the available palette. The interior features the Flyme Auto 2 cockpit system, a 23-speaker Flyme Sound system, and powered executive rear seats.
The Starshine 8 entered the Chinese market in 2025 as Geely Galaxy’s flagship plug-in hybrid sedan, targeting long-range efficiency and large-sedan comfort. Early versions emphasised extended combined range and competitive pricing in the segment.
Backstory: Geely Galaxy has continued expanding its sedan lineup, with the Starshine 7 recently revealed as a smaller model positioned below the flagship. The addition reflects the brand’s strategy to cover multiple segments in the electrified sedan market.
Market outlook
No official price has been announced for the Voyager series. The company did not disclose battery capacity, motor output, or drive configuration.
The update extends electric driving capability and adds driver-assistance features to the Starshine 8. The battery integration represents a continuation of Geely Galaxy’s program to improve the durability of hybrid and electric components.
