The BYD Sealion 08 full-size electric SUV broke cover in China, featuring a combined peak power output of 480 kW (643 hp) and a range of up to 900 km. It will enter the market this year with global market ambitions.
The BYD Sealion 08 is a flagship model of the brand’s Ocean series. It adopts the distinctive Marine Aesthetics design language, featuring elongated headlights and smooth body lines. The Sealion 08 boasts hefty dimensions of 5115/1999/1800 mm with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. For clarity, it is 92 mm shorter than the Mercedes-Benz GLS.
The Sealion 08 offers two interior layout variants for five and six seats. The car also adopts BYD’s latest tech previously introduced on the BYD Great Tang crossover. The list includes a dual-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering. The car supports BYD’s flash charging technology, thanks to the second-gen Blade battery on board. It could be charged from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.
The biggest highlight of the BYD Sealion 08 crossover is the dual-motor AWD system. Its peak power output reaches 480 kW (643 hp). As a result, this large family driver accelerates to 100 km/h in a 5-second range. The brand’s officials didn’t disclose the battery capacity. However, the Sealion 08 boasts 900 km of CLTC range on a single battery charge. According to BYD, it is the industry-leading figure.
CarNewsChina expects that the BYD Sealion 08 will have the same battery as the previously mentioned Great Tang. We are talking about an LFP pack for 130.5 kWh. It was revealed at the Beijing Auto Show 2026 that the Sealion 08 will enter the market this year. CarNewsChina expects this model to play in the 300,000 yuan (43,950 USD) price segment.
According to China EV DataTracker, BYD sold 688,939 cars globally in Q1 2026. Interestingly, its domestic deliveries were 303,150 units in the same period. It means that overseas sales accounted for over 50% of the brand’s total sales.
