BYD opened pre-sales for its Great Tang flagship SUV on April 24 at the Beijing Auto Show, with pricing set at 250,000-320,000 yuan (36,460–46,670 USD). BYD announced that it had received pre-orders for more than 30,000 units within the first 24 hours.
CarNewsChina previously reported that the Great Tang started arriving at dealerships across China on April 10, ahead of the official pre-sale.
Flagship positioning
The Great Tang is positioned as the largest SUV under BYD’s Dynasty lineup, derived from the Dynasty-D concept. With a body length exceeding 5.3 meters and a 3,130 mm wheelbase, it enters the full-size SUV segment with a three-row, seven-seat layout.
The model introduces BYD’s latest design language, including a wide front light signature and vertically stacked headlights. Interior features include a floating central display, passenger entertainment screen, and a ceiling-mounted rear display.
Powertrain and range
The battery-electric version uses BYD’s second-generation Blade battery, combined with a 1000V high-voltage platform.
The maximum CLTC range is listed at 950 km for the rear-wheel-drive version. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant produces up to 585 kW and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
Fast-charging capability is supported at a 10C rate and a peak current of 1000A, positioning the model among the highest-charging-rate EVs disclosed in China.
Hybrid variants
In addition to BEV versions, BYD will offer plug-in hybrid variants.
The DM-i variant pairs a 1.5T engine with a 300 kW electric motor, while the DM-p version uses dual motors with a combined output of 400 kW. The latter achieves 0–100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
Chassis and technology
The Great Tang integrates DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension with road preview capability, alongside rear-wheel steering. A turning radius of 5.2 meters is reported despite the vehicle’s size.
Additional features include lidar-based driver assistance, a 3 nm cockpit chip, and a 27-speaker Devialet audio system.
Market context
BYD reported domestic sales of 303,150 vehicles in China in the first quarter of 2026, representing a year-on-year decline of 61.5% compared with 643,024 units in Q1 2025, according to China EV DataTracker. The result also marks a sequential drop from 788,019 units in Q4 2025.
Market positioning
Based on its size, performance, and pricing, the Great Tang sits at the upper end of the mainstream full-size SUV segment. It overlaps with large plug-in hybrid SUVs such as the Geely Galaxy M9 while remaining positioned below higher-priced premium sub-brands.
