New spy shots of the upcoming Geely Emgrand EC713T, a new variant of the existing Geely Emgrand EC7. The Emgrand EC713T will be powered by a rather interesting 1.3 liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 133hp and 186nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT.

The Geely Emgrand EC7 is currently available with a 109hp 1.5 and a 139hp 1.8. The 1.3 turbo is an addition to the line-up and will not immediately replace the 1.8.

Geely will keep the old engine around because many Chinese car buyers, especially of the older generations, like big engines better. Even so the downsizing trend is very clear to see. More and more Chinese automakers are moving to smaller turbocharged engines, mostly based on a 1.5 or a 1.6. Geely is the first to hit the market with a 1.3 turbo, and rumors say they are also working on a 1.3 with a turbo and a supercharger, with about 160hp.

Price of the Emgrand EC7 starts at 71.800 yuan and ends at 113.800 yuan. Price for the EC713T will start around 100.000 yuan, debut is expected for the Guangzhou Auto Show in November.
