New spy shots of the upcoming Beijing Auto Shenbao, it will be launched on the Chinese auto market in December, debut will be at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November. The Shenbao is the production version of the Beijing Auto C70G that debuted on the Beijing Auto Show in April. The B70G/Shenbao is based on the old Saab 9-5.
There will be three engines: a new 1.8 turbo with 174hp, a Saab 2.0 turbo with 206hp and a Saab 2.3 turbo with a neat 246hp, all mated to a five-speed automatic. Size: 4861/1820/1462mm, wheelbase is 2755mm. The first generation Saab 9-5 was born in 1997, Beijing Auto bought the tooling and rights back in 2009. Finally, after four long years, the first Saab-based vehicle will hit the road.
Now we will finally see if these light truckmakers can make the transition to smooth riding, NVH-free passenger cars.
@ dragin – I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few years’ time Beijing is one of the biggest selling passenger car brands in China. The amount of resources being put behind this new brand (which will be far more than this opening product) are vast.
