New spy shots from the new mid-size sedan Hyundai is developing for the Chinese car market. The yet unnamed vehicle will fit between the Hyundai Elantra Langdong and the Hyundai Sonata, price will range from 140.000 yuan to 180.000 yuan. The new sedan will be made in China by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture that also makes the Elantra and Sonata.
Chinese media say, quoting anonymous sources at Hyundai, that the new sedan will debut on the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. The vehicle on the photos however seems basically ready for the market and a debut on the Shanghai Auto Show in April seems very well possible. Power will come from 1.8 and 2.0 four-cylinders. The new sedan will compete with fine cars such as the Volkswagen Sagitar and the Citroen C4L, relatively small sedans with a premium look & feel.

The reason the car in the pictures looks almost production-ready is probably because it is the European market Hyundai i40, which is different from the Hyundai Sonata. The Hyundai i40 is slightly smaller than the Sonata and is not sold in American markets.
