New Spy Shot of the upcoming BYD S1, a new sub-compact SUV that will be launched on the Chinese car market just before the end of this year, price is expected to start just above 50.000 rmb and and around 70.000 rmb. The hybrid variant of the BYD S1 will be marketed as a separate car called ‘BYD Yuan’.

Big shiny bar in the grille is the new family face of BYD.

New news on the engines: earlier on we heard the S2 would be powered by 1.1 and 1.3 liter engines, the latest reports in Chinese media however indicate the S2 will get a 1.5 and a 1.5 turbo. We are not so sure, as the smaller engines would make much more sense in this small SUV: 4320/1765/1630, and wheelbase is 2520. More on the engines as we get it…

A very interesting center console with thick chrome edges and sharp kinks. Screen is on the small side. Manual gearbox here.

BYD continues to fit the biggest taillights they can, while the latest trend in China auto land is clearly moving to smaller units.
