Spy Shots showing the upcoming Jaguar XEL testing in China. The XEL is the long-wheelbase variant of the Jaguar XE sedan. Wheelbase will be extended by 12 centimeters for more space in the back. The XEL will be manufactured locally at the Chery-JLR joint venture.
The standard-wheelbase XE is presently imported into China. Price starts at 398.000 yuan and ends at 578.000 yuan. Engines: 200hp 2.0 turbo, 240hp 2.0 turbo, and a 340hp 3.0 turbo V6.
The locally-made XEL will likely get the same engines. Price will about 20% lower over the range.
Extension behind the B-pillar. Door is longer. They might be working on some L design-element on the third side-window and/or the C-pillar, just like Mercedes-Benz has on the C-Class L.
Pipes indicate this particular test car is a 3.0 turbo V6.
The Jaguar XEL will compete with comparable locally-built L-cars, including the aforementioned C-Class L, the Audi A4L, the BMW 4Li, and the Volvo S60L.
