The Chery Tiggo 7 Plus has been launched on the Chinese car market. The Tiggo 7 Plus is a new 5-seat SUV, positioned between the Chery Tiggo 7 and the Chery Tiggo 8. It is aimed at a slightly higher market segment than the 7. The 7 Plus features Chery’s latest design language, with a polygonal grille flanked by long and narrow headlights and with faux air inlets on the far sides of the bumper.

Chery sells its SUV and crossovers under the Tiggo name. And they like it. As this moment, there are no less than 12 Tiggo’s on the market, ranging from the Tiggo 3 until the Tiggo 8 Plus. There is a lot of overlap in price and size between all these vehicles, but Chery doesn’t seem to care and keeps adding more Tiggo’s and Tiggo variants to the lineup.

The Chery Tiggo Plus is a fine looking vehicle, without being surprising or exiting. The wildest thing Chery added is some contrasting colors around the roof and a tiny bit on the front fender. On this red car the contrasting color is blue. Our hearts are racing!

The interior is a lot better. The materials and fit & finish are very good, and overall design is ultra clean. No buttons. Center piece is is a twin 12.3 inch screen. The left side is the instrument panel and the right side is for the infotainment. Lower in the center stack sits a touch screen combined with two dials for the heating system.

The graphics are super clear.

The infotainment system comes with Baidu CarLife and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment runs on Chery’s Lion 4.0 operating system.

When the car is not in motion, folks can watch a TV show or sing karaoke.

The Chery Tiggo 7 Plus is a spacious car: 4500/1842/1746, with a 2670 wheelbase. It seats 5, those who need seven seats have to go for the Chery Tiggo 8, or for the Chery Tiggo 8 Plus.

The Chery Tiggo Plus is available with three power trains:

1. 1.5 turbo with 156 hp and 230 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual and CVT.

2. 1.5 turbo + 48V with 156 hp and 230 Nm, mated to a CVT.

3. 1.6 turbo with 197 hp and 290 Nm, mated to a 7-speed DCT.

The difference between 1 and 2 lies in fuel consumption. The 1.5 turbo drinks 6.9 liters per 100 km whereas the 1.5 turbo + 48V needs 5.9 liters. The 1.6 turbo consumes 6.6.

Pictures is the 1.6 turbo, which is totally invisible under its engine cover.

Price for the Chery Tiggo 7 Plus starts at 86.800 yuan for the base model and ends at 123.900 for the top ($13.460 – $19.200), and that seems is very good deal. Chery, as always, knows how to build a lot of car for a great price.

    Chery’s apparent message is:
Keep your hands off, unless you are fully qualified to work on this.
The age of the shade tree mechanic is long gone……but Chinese auto mechanic ingenuity will somehow find a way.
