Geely has announced the Geely Emgrand Hi-X sedan today. It is an HEV version of the standard Emgrand L sedan. Geely shared the vehicle has passed some winter tests in China. Cold-weather tests became extremely popular in China. Now Chinese companies use them not only for actual testing. They also use winter tests to present a new vehicle, as Geely did with Emgrand L Hi-X.
What is Geely Emgrand L?
Geely Emgrand L is a compact sedan built on Geely’s BMA (B-segment Modular Architecture) platform. It hit the Chinese market on December 31, 2021. This sedan’s dimensions are 4735/1815/1478 mm with a wheelbase of 2700 mm. The Emgrand L has a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 141 hp and 235 Nm. This ICE works in pair with a CVT. Geely Emgrand L costs 93,900-109,900 RMB (14,730-17,245 USD).
Geely Emgrand L Hi-X
The Geely Emgrand L Hi-X got a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 150 hp and 225 Nm. This ICE works in pair with the 3-speed DHT. According to Geely, it is the world’s first mass-produced 3-speed hybrid transmission. It is equipped with two E-motors (P1+P2). The vehicle opts for full electricity at low speeds (below 20km/h). This HEV system is called “Leishen Hi-X,” but Geely got rid of the word “Leishen” in Emgrand L’s case.
The total output of the Hi-X hybrid system is 245 hp (180 kW) and 540 Nm. The Emgrand L Hi-X accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. This sedan is an HEV, so it can’t be charged with a plug. But the range of the Geely Emgrand L Hi-X is stunning at 1300 km. The fuel consumption of this vehicle is 3.8 L/100km. According to Weibo, pre-sale price of this vehicle is 115,800-153,800 (18,170-24,135 USD).
Geely has posted a series of short videos on social media with the Emgrand L Hi-X in some snowy areas. The Geely Emgrand L on shots is wrapped in camouflage. But in one of the videos posted by Geely, we saw that the car’s appearance didn’t change.
Unfortunately, Geely has shared no details about these cold-weather tests. It is strange because Chinese automakers like to share the location of cold-weather tests and temperatures there. Geely tested the methanol Emgrand HEV sedan in Mohe, Heilongjiang province. Maybe Geely tried the Emgrand L Hi-X there too. According to Geely, the temperature in Mohe can reach minus 40 degrees Celsius.
