Today, September 13, MG, a sub-brand of SAIC, launched its long-awaited MG Mulan in China. The new car is a pure electric five-door hatchback built on SAIC’s Modular Scalable Platform (known as Nebula Platform in China) and fitted with Rubik’s Cube batteries.

Presale of the MG Mulan started on August 27, and MG reported over 10,000 orders locked in already. At the launch, MG announced that the second batch of 10,000 copies simultaneously set sail for Europe.

Earlier in July, the MG Mulan (marketed as MG4 in Europe) made its debut in Europe when the automaker shipped the first 1,000 units from China. Available in 20 European countries including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, the EV is an affordable alternative to the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Nissan Leaf.

The MG Mulan is available in four trims including the Fashion trim (129,800 yuan), the Luxury trim (139,800 yuan), the Flagship version (163,800 yuan), and the high-end 4WD Triumph (186,800 yuan).

The first two trims are equipped with a 125kW single motor + 51kWh battery and have a 425 km driving range, while the Flagship trim, equipped with a 150kW single motor + 64kWh battery has a 520 km range. Finally, the top-of-the-line Triumph trim is powered by a dual-motor + 64kWh battery package with a total power of 315kW and a 460 km driving range.

For dimensions, the new car has a length, width, and height of 4287mm×1836mm×1516mm, while the wheelbase measures 2705mm. Marketed as a compact family car, the MG Mulan features LED headlights, taillights, a large panoramic sunroof, and a dynamic rear spoiler. At the front, the MG logo occupies a spot on the lip above the grille, while it is located in the middle of the wraparound taillight system at the rear.

Inside, the vehicle adopts a clean and simple layout with a flat-bottom steering wheel, 7-inch instrument panel, and a 10.25-inch floating central control screen. Buyers can choose from three interior color schemes: black, black & gray, and red & white. The center console comes with a wireless charging board and a rotary shifter while other features include a 360° surround-view camera system, keyless entry, and an air purification system.
