We previously reported that BYD became the sales champion of pure EVs in China, Israel, and New Zealand in January. However, according to Thailand’s latest insurance registration records in January 2023, BYD’s ATTO 3 model emerged as the top-selling pure EV with 1,040 vehicles delivered. BYD became Thailand’s pure EV sales champion in January. The company’s successful performance in the Thai market is due to its large-scale exports of ATTO 3, with more than 10,000 vehicles shipped so far.

In November 2022, BYD launched a pre-sale for ATTO 3 in Thailand, and within 42 days, the company received 10,500 orders for the model. Many people waited outside the BYD store the day before the booking. The high demand for ATTO 3 exceeded BYD’s expectations, leading to delivery difficulties, so the company temporarily closed reservations. One month later, the company increased its supply to the Thai market and resumed ATTO 3 reservations. The official selling price of ATTO 3 in Thailand is 1.2 million Baht (35,400 USD). The price of the same version is 139,800 RMB (20,300 USD) in China and 38,000 EUR (40,500 USD) in Europe.

Despite the large-scale exports to Thailand only beginning in December, most of the vehicles are still in the logistics process and have not yet been delivered. Therefore, BYD’s delivery numbers are expected to continue to increase in the coming months.

Top 10 best-selling pure EVs in Jan 2023 in Thailand

According to insurance data, the second-best-selling pure EV in the Thai market in January 2023 was NETA V with 555 vehicles, followed by ORA Good Cat with 494 vehicles. Interestingly, considering that Chinese companies own the MG brand and Volvo passenger cars, the top 8 pure EVs sold in Thailand in January were from China.

BYD’s success in the Thai market is set to continue with construction of its Thailand plant, which has already begun. The plant is expected to be operational in 2024 and will have an annual output of 150,000 vehicles. This factory will be BYD’s first overseas vehicle manufacturing plant and its tenth vehicle manufacturing plant overall. The vehicles produced at this plant will mainly be supplied to the Thai market and other markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
