Changan Shenlan’s new SL03 pure electric (EV) and range extender (EREV) models are expected to launch in the second half of the year. The SL03 is a compact sedan based on Changan’s EPA1 pure electric platform. The vehicle was launched in China on July 25, 2022, with three different powertrains: EV, EREV, and FCEV (hydrogen). Shenlan is a joint venture among CATL, Changan New Energy, and Huawei.
As the first product of Shenlan, SL03’s competitors include BYD Seal, Tesla Model 3, and XPeng P7. In April this year, 7,756 units of SL03 were delivered. So far, its cumulative delivery volume has exceeded 50,000 units.
New Shenlan SL03 EV
The new SL03 EV model will be equipped with a 66.8 kWh ternary lithium battery pack provided by China Innovation Aviation Technology Group Co., Ltd, giving it a pure electric cruising range of 610 km, positioned between the current 515 km and 705 km models.

It will have a camera on the exterior mirror.
The car will also offer an optional front radar.
New Shenlan SL03 EREV
The new SL03 EREV model will be replaced with an 18.99 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a new type of motor, reducing its pure electric cruising range to 100 km. The new EREV is expected to be SL03’s entry-level model in the future. For reference, the current SL03 EREV is equipped with a 28.39 kWh battery pack and a pure electric cruising range of 200 km.
According to the official website, the starting price of the current Shenlan SL03 after subsidy is only 149,900 RMB ( 21,500 USD), a 22,000 RMB reduction from the guide price of 171,900 RMB. The guide price of the new entry-level model is expected to be even lower at around 140,000 RMB (20,100 USD).

The new SL03 EREV will continue to be powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated ICE (JL473QJ) for 70 kW (95 hp) and an electric motor (XTDM66). Additionally, the new car will be decorated with chrome trim strips and equipped with both front and rear radars.
