The deliveries comprised 6,383 electric SUVs and 4,324 electric sedans (mainly ET5). Cumulative deliveries of Nio vehicles since 2018 reached 344,117 as of June 30, 2023.

The delivery guidance provided by the company was 10,187 – 12,187 sold cars in June, so the final result is on its mid-lower end.

William Li previously confirmed the company is confident to deliver 250,000 EVs in 2023. The deliveries in the first 6 months of 2023 reached 54,561 units. Despite Nio breaking the downtrend in June, analysts agree that Nio would be happy if they managed to deliver 180,000 units by the end of 2023.

For Nio, June is the first growth month since February. The new generation of ES6 SUV was launched on May 24. It significantly helped June sales – the car’s previous generation was responsible for 40% of all cumulative Nio sales since they started deliveries in 2018 to April 2023.

The second critical milestone happened on June 12. Despite the company’s CEO, William Li stating otherwise and assuring Nio would not join the price war, Nio joined the price war. Hefei-based EV maker lowered the cost of every single model by 30,000 yuan (4,200 USD), including the newly launched ES6.

That resulted in 80% more store visits in the following week. Moreover, on June 15, the ET5 Touring – station wagon version of the ET5 sedan was launched, and deliveries started on June 16. As we already learned in the ES6 case, it takes about two weeks from the official delivery date before it affects the actual numbers.

On June 28, the second generation of Nio’s 7-seater SUV flagship ES8 started deliveries in China. That will start to affect sales in mid-July and with full force in August.

CarNewsChina’s estimate for June deliveries appeared too optimistic, with a forecast of 11,000 delivered units. That is an error rate of +2.66%. For May, the error rate was +0.73% with forecasted 6,200 units, while Nio delivered 6,155 units.
