The report is more or less in line with a previous report by the local media outlet, 36kr, in April, citing unnamed insider who said  Huawei and JAC will build RMB 800,000-1 million luxury EV, with JAC learning from Huawei about vehicle R&D, E/E architecture, electric drive system. The outlet’s source added that MPV’s R&D is based on Huawei’s Integrated Product Development protocol.

Car News China already reported the information on the JAC’s plant that was provided by China Construction Bureau. Although the documents on the factory are not available on the bureau’s website any more, one of JAC’s managers confirmed in an interview that the factory will be used by the two companies to build a brand new luxury brand that will be part of JAC’s offering.

JAC and Huawei have been rumored to build a car since December 2019, when the two companies signed cooperation agreement on Modular Data Center platform and smart driving, cabin, electric drive, connectivity and cloud services. In 2022, rumors on Huawei and JAC using the SERES mode to develop a new model started. In January this year, Huawei’s  executive director met with Hefei’s officials to discuss cooperation between the phone maker, JAC and the county where the Huawei-JAC factory is being built. At the time, the rumors were saying Huawei will help JAC build RMB 200,000-350,000 mid-/high-end models with the first one entering the market the third or the fourth quarter this year at earliest.
