BYD Seal line spotted in IAA Mobility 2023 ahead of the start

The BYD Seal EV sedan and BYD Seal U SUV were spotted in Germany at the IAA Mobility 2023 exhibition. They are getting ready for the overseas launch. Let’s get to know these vehicles better.

Before we crack on with the BYD’s Seal line, we will remind you that IAA Mobility is one of the biggest mobility trade fairs in the world that focuses on passenger vehicles. From 2021, this auto show moved to Munich, Germany. Since it is one of the well-known events in the automotive industry, Chinese brands could not but visit it. As a result, we will see lots of Chinese brands at the IAA Mobility, including Avatr, Leapmotor, BYD, etc. Speaking about the BYD, as mentioned, it plans to make a global premiere of two of its vehicles.

BYD Seal EV

The first vehicle from BYD that will be displayed at the IAA Mobility is the Seal EV sedan. We will remind you that it has recently hit the Brazilian market. As we can see in some shots from the exhibition center, the Seal EV sedan is already waiting first automotive enthusiasts.

The displayed vehicle is finished in North Ice Blue color. In terms of exterior styling, it stays in line with the Seal EV for the domestic market. It has the same thin headlights, a sloped bonnet line, a low beltline and black trim all over the car. But the displayed version is the absence of the “Build Your Dreams” inscription at the rear end of the Seal EV. Moreover, there are no badges in Chinese language.

Moreover, we will also mention that a bunch of BYD Seal EVs was spied in Munich next to the exhibition center. It looks like these cars a ready for media test drives.

Here, we will remind you that the BYD Seal EV is a sporty sedan with dimensions of 4800/1875/1460 mm and a wheelbase of 2920 mm. For a comparison, the Seal EV is 87 mm longer, 48 mm wider and 20 mm higher than the BMW 3 Series. The entry level Seal has a single electric motor for 204 hp and a 61.44-kWh battery for 550 km of CLTC range. The long-range model has an 82.5-kWh battery for 700 km and an e-motor for 313 horses. As for the top trim level, it has the same battery for 650 km and two electric motors for 530 hp. In China, the Seal EV costs 189,800 – 289,800 yuan (26,545 – 40,530 USD). As for the price range for the European market, it can be revealed at the IAA Mobility.

BYD Seal U

The Seal U is an SUV under the BYD brand. In China, it sells as the BYD Song Plus Champion Edition. However, BYD thought that this name is a bit too odd for the international markets. This is why they have come up with the Seal U name.

The car displayed at the IAA Mobility stand hasn’t got any badges, just like the Seal EV sedan that stands next to it. Here, we can also see that this Seal U is a fully electric SUV. We will remind you that BYD also sells the PHEV version of this vehicle domestically. As for the exterior color, the displayed car is finished in the Azure Blue color. Inside, the Seal U has sporty seats with integrated headrests. It has also got a large rotatable screen, a sporty steering wheel with a flat bottom. And a center tunnel with a small retractable gear shifter.

Speaking about specs of the BYD Seal U, its dimensions are 4785/1890/1660 mm with a wheelbase of 2765 mm. The Seal U has two powertrain options. The first one has a 71-kWh LFP battery on board for 520 km of range. It powers the 204-hp electric motor. The second version has a bigger LFP battery pack for 87 kWh, goof for 605 km of range. It is paired with a 218-hp e-motor.
