On May 27, the concept car drawing of a joint sedan between GAC Trumpchi and Huawei was exposed by Huang Yongqiang, General Manager of GAC, on social media. The new car will be launched in 2025. Trumpchi is a brand under GAC Motor.
Earlier, at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show in April, GAC Trumpchi announced a joint innovation plan with Huawei to launch models equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 intelligent driving system and Huawei’s latest generation HarmonyOS cockpit system.
Furthermore, according to previous news, the two parties will cooperate on three models, namely a large luxury flagship MPV, a large luxury flagship SUV, and a large luxury flagship sedan. The first model will be launched and delivered in the first quarter of 2025. The concept car drawing exposed this time is consistent with the previously announced sketch of the new large luxury flagship sedan.
Cooperation between GAC and Huawei began in 2017 as one of the first Chinese automotive companies to collaborate with Huawei in the field of intelligent connected electric vehicle technology. Then in September 2020, the two companies signed another deepening strategic cooperation agreement to jointly create a digital platform.
Later in July 2021, GAC Aion announced its plan to jointly develop a model internally codenamed AH8. However, in March last year, GAC Aion announced that Huawei would no longer participate in this joint development, but would instead serve as a supplier. This termination could potentially be due to Huawei’s style of being deeply involved in the product definition, making it difficult for GAC Aion to adapt since GAC Aion treated Huawei as its supplier and managed it like other traditional suppliers.
But this hiccup did not stop the two parties from continuing their collaboration. In fact, in February this year, GAC Trumpchi launched its Trumpchi M8 Grandmaster Pioneer Edition, equipped with Huawei’s HarmonyOS smart cockpit system. Then on March 15, GAC Trumpchi signed a contract with Huawei to join the Harmony Ecosystem and start the development of native applications based on the HarmonyOS NEXT.
