On September 24 the Luxeed R7 launched. Luxeed is a brand co-developed between Chery and Huawei using Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) ecosystem. Pre-sales of the car began on September 10, and as usual with the launch, prices are slightly lower than with pre-sales. We were also surprised that there are actually four versions rather than the three that were announced during the pre-sales conference. Prices for the Luxeed R7 range from 259,800 to 339,800 yuan (36,950 – 48,300 USD). The versions are as follows:
RWD 82 kWh Pro | 259,800 yuan (36,950 USD) |
RWD 82 kWH Max | 299,800 yuan (42,650 USD) |
RWD 100 kWh Max | 319,800 yuan (45,500 USD) |
AWD 100 kWh Ultra | 339,800 yuan (48,300 USD) |
The R7 is the second model from the Luxeed brand. Although an SUV coupe, its general design is similar to that of the first model, the S7 sedan. This is particularly the case at the front, with the enclosed grille and headlight design. Although Huawei is keen to emphasize that it does not make cars, all the designs in the HIMA ecosystem have a similar kunpeng design.
It is a relatively large car measuring 4956, 1981, and 1634 mm (l/w/h) with a 2950 mm wheelbase. As standard, the car comes with 20-inch wheels, with an option for 21-inch wheels. Although some people are pegging the R7 as a Tesla Model Y competitor, the car is actually 206 mm longer and is even bigger than cars such as the BMW X6. Furthermore, it has the lowest drag for a mass-produced SUV, with a Cd of 0.219.
Buyers can choose from six colors: Ceramic White, Space Grey, Gilded Black, Cosmopolitan Red, Phantom Purple, and Sunny Blue. Optional Brembo red brake calipers for a more sporty look are also available.
The car features a Tuling chassis. Thanks to intelligent vehicle state perception (iVSE), It enables the R7 to negotiate various types of conditions, including off-road, as reported yesterday. Using the first active cornering control system, which utilizes through braking, power torque vectoring, and dual-motor four-wheel torque power control, can accurately follow the road, reducing the pushing effect of corners. It claims to have a 3% greater stability than the Tesla Model Y and 18% higher than the BMW X6.
There is also an intelligent downhill cruise function that can adaptively control vehicle speed and reduce driver pedal intervention. This results in greater energy recovery and less brake heating. The R7 fitted with this system is claimed to require 67% less braking intervention than a Tesla Model Y and 63.8% less than a BMW X6. The Luxeed R7 has achieved a moose test speed of 82.3 km/h.
The Luxeed R7 features double wishbone suspension at the front and multi-link independent suspension at the rear. It also has continuous variable damping and air suspension.
Inside, buyers have a choice from four color schemes: White Sand Apricot, Amber Brown, Feather Red, and Truffle Brown. Luxeed likens the interior to that of a yacht. As standard, the car comes with a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen. There are rear entertainment screens, although it is not clear whether this is only on top-spec models. The entertainment system comes with Huawei MagLink along with Huawei Sound.
It should be remembered that the car’s system uses the Huawei Harmony OS. Pro models feature a 15-speaker sound system, whereas all other versions of the car have 17-speakers in a 1000W sound system. There is also an 8.2-liter fridge in the center console that can control the temperature from 3-50°C.
As standard, the R7 comes with a driver’s zero gravity seat along with electrically adjustable second-row seats. The Max version adds a zero-gravity seat for the passenger as well. This supports 18-way adjustment, 10-point massage, and a heated leg rest with a length of 340 mm. Furthermore, all seats have heating, ventilation, and massage functions as standard. Both the front and rear rows have double-layered heat and sound-insulated glass.
Trunk spaces is 837 liters using a three-partition design and it is big enough to accommodate three 28-inch and one 20-inch suitcases. With the seats down volume is increased to 2130 liters. There is also a 52-litre frunk, which has a novel opening system, whereby when in P if you knock the hood twice, it will open.
All versions use an 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform as standard. The Pro and Max versions use a 215 kW electric motor mounted on the rear axle, while the Ultra version also adds a 150 kW motor to the front axle. Acceleration time for the dual-motor version is just 3.9 seconds.
The Pro version only comes with an 82 kWh battery pack, whereas the Max has a choice between this pack or a larger 100 kWh pack. Ranges are 667 km and 802 km, respectively. The all-wheel drive Ultra version is only available with the larger 100 kWh pack and it has a range of up to 736 km, all distances are measured using the CLTC measurement system. It’s claimed that the range will increase by 200 km with five minutes of charging, and the car can add 400 km in 15 minutes.
The Pro version will come with the vision-based Huawei Qiankun ADS 3.0 system. Both the Max and Ultra add a 192-line Huawei Lidar unit to use the full Qiankun system.
Mass deliveries Of the Max and Ultra versions are set to begin on October 15 With deliveries of the pro version beginning November 15.

Phenomenal product. Does the Huawei sync up help sell this a lot in China. This could take marketshare away from Tesla Model Y if they can ramp it up. Market is crazy competitive with cheaper Onvo L60 and also similar priced Zeekr 7x also just released. Plus all other products available at different price point. I expect Tesla to continue to offer 0% interest rate for a long time to move their cars in China.
