New spy photos have revealed further details about the Geely Galaxy Starship 9, the company’s upcoming full-size flagship SUV. It is expected to debut later this month.
Exterior and Design Adjustments
The heavily camouflaged prototype shows a high-set front end with a wide grille and circular temporary headlights, which will likely be replaced by full-width LED light bars in the final production version. The vehicle retains the general shape of the earlier Galaxy Starship concept. Still, it features more conventional design elements, such as regular side mirrors instead of cameras and standard rear doors in place of the concept’s rear-hinged setup.
Dual charging and refuelling ports confirm the model’s plug-in hybrid status. A visible roof-mounted LiDAR unit points to the integration of semi-autonomous driving functions.
Interior
Spy photos of the interior show design elements similar to those of the concept presented at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. This may include a panoramic display that spans the dashboard, housing instrumentation, infotainment, and media functions. Other likely features include Geely’s voice assistant system and three-row seating for six or seven occupants. Rear climate controls and wireless charging are also expected to be offered.
Powertrain and autonomous driving features
The Starship 9 is set to debut Geely’s updated Leishen plug-in hybrid system, which pairs a 1.5-litre internal combustion engine with an 11-in-1 electric drive unit. The vehicle is also equipped with Geely’s “Qianli Haohan” driver assistance system, which includes Lidar and mmWave radar. The brand’s Digital Chassis platform coordinates features such as brake-by-wire, rear-wheel steering, and adaptive suspension.
Based on the available hardware, the vehicle could support Level 2+ or Level 3 autonomous driving in select scenarios.
Positioning in the Lineup
The Starship 9 will occupy the top of the Galaxy sub-brands range, positioned below Geely’s more expensive models from Lynk & Co and Zeekr. It is expected to be priced between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan (~27,500 to 41,260 USD), competing with vehicles like the Changan Deepal S09 and offering a lower-cost alternative to high-end models such as the Li Auto L9.
Geely is expected to unveil the Galaxy Starship 9 later this month, with deliveries likely to begin in the third quarter of 2025. The vehicle will join a growing lineup under the Galaxy brand, which includes models like the E5 and Starship 7. The Galaxy series has contributed significantly to Geely’s recent sales growth, with a 280% increase in deliveries reported for Q1 2025.
