Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun has shared early information about the company’s next electric vehicle, the YU7 SUV, before its official launch on May 22. Building on the success of the SU7 sedan, the YU7 represents Xiaomi’s entry into the competitive segment of large, high-performance electric SUVs.
In a recent post on Weibo, Lei Jun acknowledged the challenges of entering a crowded market. Still, they stated that the YU7 is being developed, focusing on performance, comfort, and innovative technologies. The new SUV will carry over some design language from the SU7 while offering a larger cabin, improved ride comfort, and additional advanced features tailored to daily use.
The vehicle’s name loosely translates to “land chariot, riding the wind,” a reference to its dynamic profile. Regulatory filings in China have revealed that the YU7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,608 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. This places it firmly in the large luxury SUV category, in the same class as the Tesla Model X and Nio ES8.
The YU7 will be offered in two powertrain configurations. The base model uses a single rear-mounted motor rated at 235 kW, while the more powerful dual-motor version delivers a combined 508 kW, equivalent to 691 horsepower. According to available specifications, the dual-motor variant has a top speed of 253 km/h. Two battery packs will be available: one with a capacity of 96.3 kWh and a larger 101.7 kWh unit, the latter supporting an estimated range of up to 820 kilometres under the CLTC standard.
Although full interior details have not been disclosed, Lei Jun suggested that the vehicle include advanced connectivity features and support for Xiaomi’s broader innovative ecosystem. It is also expected to incorporate autonomous driving functions and high-end interior materials, aligning with the company’s goal of delivering a tech-forward driving experience.
The YU7 is expected to serve as Xiaomi’s flagship SUV, with pricing projected to fall between 400,000 and 500,000 yuan (approximately 55,000 to 70,000 USD). The official unveiling is anticipated in the third quarter of 2025, with customer deliveries to follow soon after.
