Toyota bZ5 coupe SUV started deliveries in China with BYD battery

The China-made Toyota bZ5 fastback SUV started deliveries in 100 cities of the Middle Kingdom. Priced at 129,800 yuan (18,075 USD), this car boasts a BYD battery, up to 630 km range, and a peak power of 200 kW (268 hp).

The Toyota bZ5 is a fastback crossover launched on June 10 in China. It is being manufactured by the FAW-Toyota joint venture. Moreover, this vehicle adopts BYD tech on board, including an LFP battery from FinDreams. The bZ5 will rival such models as the Tesla Model Y, the Deepal S07, and the Leapmotor C10 in China.

Toyota bZ5 deliveries

With a sales start on June 10, it took FAW-Toyota six days to kick off deliveries of the bZ5. The joint venture shared on official social media channels that the new electric crossover is being delivered in 100 cities across China. The first group of owners was handed over the keys. Other potential consumers are free to experience test drives.

We will remind you that the Toyota bZ5 derives from the bZ Sports Crossover concept car revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show 2023. This model is co-developed by Toyota, FAW, and BYD. Currently, there is no information about the Japanese automaker’s plans to sell it anywhere but China. So, this vehicle became another made-in-China-for-China product alongside the bZ3 sedan.

The Toyota bZ5 costs 129,800 – 199,800 yuan (18,075 – 27,820 USD) in China. This price tag underlines the Japanese automaker’s aggressive pricing in China. However, FAW-Toyota hasn’t disclosed the number of orders the bZ5 got after the launch ceremony.
