Farasis Energy, backed by Mercedes-Benz, announced on July 21 that its solid-state battery development has entered the pilot production and delivery phase, as reported by IT-Home. The company stated it expects to complete construction of a pilot production line with a design capacity of 0.2 GWh for sulfide-based solid-state batteries by the end of 2025. As part of this plan, Farasis aims to deliver 60Ah sulfide solid-state battery samples to strategic partner customers.

According to the company, it has also received interest from several established new energy vehicle manufacturers beyond its existing partners. It anticipates expanding sample deliveries to additional clients. Based on market feedback and internal planning, Farasis expects to scale its all-solid-state battery production to gigawatt-hour (GWh) levels in 2026.

Farasis previously stated that its sulfide-based solid-state batteries utilise a development route that combines high-nickel ternary cathodes, soft-pack structures, and stacked cell architecture. The current design features high-nickel cathodes paired with high-silicon or lithium metal anodes, aiming for an energy density exceeding 400 Wh/kg. The cells have entered real-world testing and reportedly show stable cycling performance.

In terms of safety, Farasis stated that its solid-state electrolytes have passed puncture, shear, and thermal chamber tests. The battery cells are designed with a self-shutdown feature to reduce risks during thermal runaway.

Partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Farasis Energy began in 2020.

The company is also developing a second battery platform based on oxide/polymer composite electrolytes. This version utilises lithium metal anodes and high-nickel cathodes, aiming for an energy density of up to 500 Wh/kg. Farasis has completed development of compatible composite electrolyte materials and introduced a proprietary process for producing ultra-thin electrolyte layers.

Company Background

Farasis Energy, founded in 2009 and listed on Shanghai Stock Exchange Star Market in 2020, is a Chinese battery manufacturer renowned for its high-performance ternary soft-pack lithium-ion batteries, which are used in electric vehicles and energy storage applications. The company ranked first in domestic soft-pack battery shipments for seven consecutive years (2017–2023).

Backed by Mercedes-Benz, Farasis also holds strategic partnerships with Geely and Togg. It also operates Siro, a battery joint venture with Togg, and collaborates with FAW on commercial vehicle applications. Farasis supplies battery cells for Mercedes-Benz’s current EV models—such as the EQE and EQS—directly from its plants in China. In early 2025, the Guangzhou Municipal Government took control of the company through Guangzhou Industrial Investment Holding Group.
