The new-gen BYD Atto 3 (Yuan Plus) electric crossover aimed at the domestic market will debut at the Beijing Auto Show 2026 on April 24. This model adopts the RWD platform, flash charging, and a 50 mm longer wheelbase.

On April 20, BYD shared on social media that it will reveal the new Atto 3 at the upcoming exhibition in Beijing. The brand’s officials refer to this car as the “third-generation” model. The new Atto 3 previously applied for a sales license in China, revealing core specs.

BYD ignored the fact that we have already seen actual photos of the new Atto 3 exposed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) during the domestic homologation process. As a result, we got some official drawings of the next-gen model. It adopts a blackened roof and pillars, a closed front end with thin headlights, and a single taillight unit.

More about the new BYD Atto 3

The new BYD Atto 3 is a compact-sized crossover with dimensions of 4665/1895/1675 mm. The wheelbase reaches 2,770 mm. It is 210 mm longer, 20 mm wider, and 60 mm higher than the outgoing crossover. The wheelbase of the updated variant was stretched by 50 mm. The new Atto 3 offers two wheel options for 18 and 19 inches.

The third-gen Atto 3 offers two LFP battery options from the BYD subsidiary FinDreams. The entry-level pack has a capacity of 57.545 kWh. It is paired with a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor in the rear axle, offering an electric range of 540 km. The second battery provides a capacity of 68.547 kWh. It works in pairs with an e-motor for 240 kW (322 hp). The electric range of this version is 630 km.

It was officially disclosed that the new BYD Atto 3 will support the flash charging technology that allows charging from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes. The 10% to 97% charging takes around 9 minutes. The charging time increases by 3 minutes at temperatures as low as -30°C.

Previously, we had a glance at the new Atto 3 interior. It adopts a two-spoke steering wheel with a gear shifter mounted on the steering column. The car boasts an LCD instrument cluster, a large floating touchscreen, and a head-up display. The center tunnel has a wireless phone charger, a couple of cup holders, and a hidden storage compartment.

According to China EV DataTracker, the domestic sales of the BYD Atto 3 (Yuan Plus) have been declining consecutively since the third quarter of 2024 due to intense competition and a switch of priorities in the brand’s lineup. In Q1 2026, Atto 3 delivered 10,675 units, a 73.2% drop Year-Over-Year. The long-awaited substantial update aims to reverse the negative trend of the sales decline.

We will highlight that BYD currently sells the Atto 3 Evo crossover outside China with a refined powertrain, AWD, and an adjusted interior. This car has little in common with the new-gen model for China, as it stands on the outgoing model.
