China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed the Hyundai Ioniq V in its latest regulatory filing catalogue ahead of the sedan’s planned market launch.
The Ioniq V previously made its global debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April as part of Hyundai’s expanded China-focused EV strategy.
E-GMP platform with dual powertrain strategy
The Ioniq V is built on Hyundai’s E-GMP electric platform and will be available in both battery-electric and extended-range electric (EREV) configurations.
The filing shows the sedan supports 800V fast charging and uses a high-efficiency electric drive system. The model also integrates technology partners, including Momenta, Qualcomm, CATL, Baidu Wenxin large language models, and Volcano Engine.
The sedan measures 4900 mm long, 1890 mm wide, and 1470 mm high, with a 2900 mm wheelbase.
Coupe-style exterior
The Ioniq V adopts a low-slung fastback sedan design instead of the boxy SUV styling commonly seen in China’s EV market.
Exterior highlights shown in the MIIT filing include frameless doors, large aerodynamic wheels, and a full-width “star-track” rear light design. Beijing Hyundai said the model was developed by Hyundai’s China design team specifically for Chinese buyers.
Inside, the company previously confirmed a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K display, an ambient lighting system, and a HUD branded as “Cyber Eye.”
Qualcomm 8295 chip and Momenta system
The model is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 cockpit chip together with dual AI large-model support.
Hyundai also said the Ioniq V will adopt Momenta-assisted L2+ driving functions.
At the Beijing Auto Show in April, Hyundai Motor CEO José Muñoz said the automaker plans to launch 20 new models in China over the next five years, including EVs, EREVs, hybrids, and gasoline vehicles.
China market context
Hyundai’s China sales reached 8,909 vehicles in March 2026, down 17.6% year-on-year, according to China EV DataTracker. The company held a 0.5% market share during the month. Hyundai sold 6,603 vehicles in February and 11,401 vehicles in January 2026.
The Ioniq V is among the first major China-focused EV products launched under Hyundai’s renewed localisation strategy for the Chinese market.
