Foton is a brand from Beijing Auto Industry Corporation (BAIC). The Foton Tunland is a completely new designed truck which will hit the market in early 2012. The Tunland, Toyota Tundra?, is powered by a 2.8 liter turbo diesel with 130hp and 360nm, the engine comes from Cummins.

Diesel-power also means the Tunland can not be sold in any of China’s big cities on the East Coast since diesel-powered cars are completely forbidden there out of fear for air pollution.

To put that into perspective: China has 1.4 billion people, around 300 million live in mentioned cities on the east coast. The rest of the country would love to have a strong ‘n cheap diesel-powered pick up truck. What the Tunland will cost we do not yet know, but is it very unlikely the price will go much higher than 170.000 yuan.

Note manual gearbox.

Cummins, and yep they proud of it.
