The 2026 model year Deepal S05 all-electric crossover from Changan entered the Chinese market with a 110 km range increase and a 33 hp boost. This compact BEV can run up to 620 km on a single charge with a 268-hp e-motor in the rear axle. The newly launched modification starts at 129,800 yuan (18,030 USD).

The Deepal S05 entered the local market in October 2024, becoming one of the brand’s bestsellers. Available as BEV and EREV, the S05 cumulatively sold 62,309 units, according to CarNewsChina. On August 1, Deepal launched the 2026 model year version of the all-electric S05 crossover.

The Deepal S05 is a compact-sized crossover with dimensions of 4620/1900/1600 mm. Its wheelbase stretches to 2,880 mm. This SUV offers sleek styling with thin running lights and headlights integrated into the front bumper. Its other highlights include retractable door handles, a single taillight unit, and slanted D-pillars. The BEV variant of the S05 has a front trunk for 159 liters.

The Deepal S05’s interior has a 15.4-inch floating touchscreen with 2.5K resolution. The gear shifter sits behind a three-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom. There are two cup holders, a wireless phone charging pad, and a spacious compartment in the center tunnel. Another highlight of the S05 is the absence of the instrument cluster. A head-up display partly compensates for it in upper trims.

The Deepal S05 BEV was initially available with a CATL-made 56.1 kWh battery suitable for 510 km of CLTC range. It sent power to a 175 kW (235 hp) electric motor in the rear axle. The 2026 model year car adopts a larger 68.8 kWh pack from CATL. It is suitable for 610 km of CLTC range. The battery supports the 3C fast charging function that allows charging from 30 to 80% in 15 minutes. Moreover, the updated S05 has a more powerful 200 kW (268 hp) e-motor.

The Deepal S05 is also offered as EREV. However, the car with this powertrain hasn’t been updated for the 2026 model year yet. The ongoing variant offers a 1.5-liter ICE for 72 kW (97 hp) under the hood. The car can run up to 155 km on a single charge thanks to the 27.3 kWh battery pack that powers a single e-motor for 160 kW (215 hp).

The 2026 model year Deepal S05 is available for purchase in three trim levels: Plus, Max, and Ultra. We listed their prices below.

Deepal offers a limited-time 4,000 yuan (555 USD) discount for the 2026 model year S05 BEV. So, its current price range is 125,900 – 145,900 yuan (17,475 – 20,245 USD). For clarity, the 2024 model year car with a smaller battery was priced between 119,900 – 135,900 yuan (16,650 – 18,870 USD).

The range anxiety among potential buyers still exists even in the Chinese market with a developed charging network. Therefore, many automakers have released versions of their popular models with higher-capacity batteries. It turns into a challenge for the brand’s cost control. Some automakers manage to remain the same price tag while adding extra kWh to their BEVs, like Geely did with the recently launched 2026 EX5. This rivalry could evolve into a fierce competition reminiscent of well-known Chinese price wars.
