Chinese all-electric passenger vehicles have an average 528 km range in Q1 to Q3 2025, up 24% from 2020

The average pure electric cruising range of Chinese pure electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and range-extender (EREV) passenger vehicles is 528 km, 137 km, and 205 km (assuming under CLTC conditions) as of the end of the third quarter in 2025, respectively, according to Cui Dongshu, Secretary of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

In the past five years, due to the rapid popularization of larger batteries, the average cruising range of BEVs, PHEVs, and EREVs has increased by 103 km, 44 km, and 80 km since 2020, respectively.

Among the BEV models launched by Chinese automakers in 2025, the number of models with a range of less than 300 km is gradually decreasing while the 500 – 599 km range models dominate, followed by 600 – 699 km, then 400 – 499 km.

For PHEVs in the first three quarters of 2025, the mileage is concentrated in the 100 – 149 km range segment, followed by 150 – 199 km, then 80 – 99 km.

The pure electric range of EREVs is concentrated in the 150 – 199 km range segment, followed by 200 – 249 km, then 250 – 299 km, in the first three quarters of 2025.
