Geely’s subsidiary SiEngine began mass production of 7-nm ADAS chips capable of 2,048 TOPS. It is the new product series, which includes AD1000 and AD800 SoCs. This system offers platform-based support for automakers to achieve L2 to L4 autonomous driving.

SiEngine is an automotive chip company founded by Geely-backed Ecarx and Arm China in 2018. It has several R&D centers in Wuhan, Neijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Shenyang. SiEngine supplies ADAS and cockpit chips to Geely, Geely Galaxy, Lynk & Co, Volvo, Hongqi, Changan Nevo, and Volkswagen. It is also the only Chinese company to produce 7 nm cockpit SoCs.

SiEngine began mass production of the 7 nm ADAS chips on December 26. They belong to the “StarLight” series. 7 nm chip technology allows packing more transistors into a smaller space, boosting performance and reducing energy consumption. It comprises two chips. The first is the flagship AD1000 SoC. The second is the entry-level version called AD800.

According to SiEngine, the AD1000 chip is benchmarked against the most ADAS products available internationally. It surpasses such products in key indicators such as CPU (Central Processing Unit) performance, ISP (Image Signal Processor) processing power, and storage capacity. The AD1000 chip adopts a 7 nm multi-core architecture with a peak computing power of 512 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second).

Up to four AD1000 SoCs could be used in a collaborative solution to achieve an output of 2,048 TOPS. Its memory bandwidth reaches 204 GB/s. It also supports EVITA safety standards with a hardware security module capable of executing cryptographic algorithms and international encryption protocols. This solution offers platform-based support for automakers to achieve L2 to L4 ADAS.

It is worth noting that only Xpeng’s latest Turing AI chip combination offers a higher computing power of 2,250 TOPS. For clarity, the Xiaomi YU7 electric crossover adopts the Nvidia AG Thor chip for 700 TOPS. And the Tesla Model Y has the AI 4 SoC for 720 TOPS.
