Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation, BIAC, launched a new baby. The brand is called Weiwang and will focus on minicars and minivans. First up is the Weiwang 306, a typical Chinese minivan or mianbaoche used everywhere in China to transport everything from human beings to lettuce to beer.
Weiwang will compete with minicarmakers such as Wuling and Chang’an. The 306 measures 4030x1636x1907, wheelbase is 2700. Engine: 1.3 with 81hp and 102nm. Max cargo space: 5.01 cubic meter.
Why a minivan? This is such a crowded segment. Seems BAIC should capitalize on its strength and reputation with rugged 4X4s. Perhaps even offering all wheel drive in its sedan lineup.
