WEY Holographic Assistant

The new WEY-X electric concept car comes with a fancy holographic assistant. The assistant is a white lady of about 25 years old, she wears a hotel-style uniform with clunky shoes. She is lovely.

The assistant will be able to answer questions, like Google Assistant, and to perform simple task like turning up the volume or switching on the lights. Very fancy but, I imagine, also a tad distracting. Fortunately she isn’t naked.

The WEY-X has face recognition for opening and starting the car. Face recognition is the new trend at the moment in China; every new concept we have seen in recent days has it. The sensor inside the car is mounted on the rear view mirror. WEY says the X has Level 5 autonomy. In autonomous mode the rim and spokes of the steering wheel fold away, as seen on the images.

The WEY-X can charge wireless on a matrix charging board. During peak hours, it can feed electricity back into the power grid. When it is charging at home it can feed the electricity directly into the household, where it can be used to power light and appliances.

They WEY-X is a concept car of Great Wall’s WEY brand. It previews an upcoming sporty crossover SUV. The concept is electric, but the production car will be petrol and plug-in hybrid. The WEY-X will debut next week on the 2018 Beijing Auto Show.

The X-logo on the WEY-X, instead of the WEY logo, indicates WEY is working on a new line or a sub-brand, likely for sporty crossovers.
