The all-new Li Auto S01 all-electric SUV was spied in China during road tests. In these photos, we can see that it is actually smaller than the upcoming Li Auto Mega MPV. On the other hand, it adopts the Mega’s design language. According to insiders, the S01 stands on the 800V fast-charging platform. Let’s get to the details about this car.

Li Auto S01 spy shots

The first information about the Li Auto S01 appeared online in 2020. The S01 was said to be the all-electric SUV that is aimed to compete with the Tesla Model X. So; the S01 is the inner name of this vehicle. After the market launch, it will be changed. Here, we would like to talk more about it. We will remind you that the code name of the Li Auto L9 is X01 and the name of the Li Auto Mega is W01. So, we can see that the “01” number here indicates that the vehicle takes a flagship position in the series. And, according to rumors, the so called “S-series” will comprise all-electric SUVs.

So, the S01 will be the flagship car among brand’s fully electric crossovers. As we can see in spy shots, this vehicle is heavily covered with camouflage. However, it is easy to tell that the S01 adopts the design language of the Li Auto Mega. It has the same raindrop body shape with slanted front pillars that merge into the sloped bonnet. Of course, this styling can be explained by the importance of the low drag coefficient. Since the S01 won’t be an EREV (range extender) vehicle, its all-electric range becomes really important.

We can also notice that the Li Auto S01 adopts real side view mirrors and five-spoke rims. As we can see, it has a slightly sloped roofline. On the other hand, a relatively long wheelbase and noticeable overhang hints that the S01 will have three rows of seats inside. There is also a strange bump on the roof that can cover the LiDAR sensor. From the back, we can see that the S01 has a small rear window and some test taillights.

What do we know about the S01?

Actually, we know a few facts about the Li Auto S01. It stands on the Whale&Shark architecture that also underpins the Li Auto Mega MPV. It means that the S01 adopts the 800V fast charging platform. As a result, it will be able to reach a 400-km cruising range within 9 minutes and 30 seconds of charging. As for the 600-km range, it will charge it up in 22 minutes. Speaking about the battery, the Li Auto S01 adopts the 5C battery from CATL. It will have a new cooling system that will reduce thermal resistance by 75%.

Speaking about the size of the S01, it has yet to be revealed. However, it was mentioned that this SUV is a bit smaller than the Li Auto Mega MPV. So, the S01 will be approximately the size of the Li Auto L9. So, its length will reach 5.2 meters, width will be about of 2 meters, and height of the S01 will be about of 1.7-1.8 meters.
