Xiaomi SU7 sporty sedan was spied on a highway in China in heavy camo. The Chinese influencer uploaded the video showing Xiaomi’s active rear wing and the EV’s incredible acceleration.

The influencer 摄影怎么学 was trying to chase Xiaomi EV and harass it by driving very close behind to get the best shot. When the SU7’s test driver noticed, he changed lines in not a very incorrect maneuver and accelerated, leaving the paparazzi far behind. The speed of the influencer’s car was over 150 km/h at one point, but as the Xiaomi accelerated, its speed was most likely over 200 km/h.

The Xiaomi SU7 applied for a sales license in China last week, revealing the EV’s appearance and some key specifications. It showed three versions: SU7, SU7 Pro, SU7 Max, and a special Founders Edition. However, MIIT homologation fillings often show version names that won’t become official production names, so don’t read too much into it. For example, the updated Tesla Model 3 (codenamed Highland) was revealed with a Model 3+ badge by MIIT, but in the end, the official name was renamed Model 3.

More interesting are the powertrain options. There are two:

  • RWD
    • 220 kW motor from United Automotive Electronics Co.
    • Top speed 210 km/h
    • LFP battery pack from BYD
    • Curb weight 1,980 kg
  • AWD
    • 495 kW motor (220 kW + 275 kW) from Suzhou Automotive
    • Top speed 265 km/h
    • NMC ternary battery pack from CATL
    • curb weight 2,205 kg
    • active rear wing

The state-owned BAIC Off-road Vehicle Co. will contract-manufacture the sports sedan in their Beijing plant. Xiaomi made a joint venture with BAIC called Beijing-Xiaomi that operates the factory. It is a similar setup that Nio had with JAC.

SU7 is a good-looking 4-door 5-seater with dimensions 4997/1963/1455 mm and a wheelbase of 3000 mm. The size is similar to the Tesla Model S. The EV will have face recognition support to unlock it.
