The Neta L is the latest model from Hozon Auto. The NEV SUV aims to rival the BYD Song Plus (Seal-U in Europe) and Tesla Model Y. It is available with EREV and BEV powertrain options. It has a single e-motor for 170 kW (231 hp) and LFP batteries from SVOLT, a Great Wall Motor subsidiary.

Neta is a Chinese mainstream NEV brand launched in 2018. It focuses on manufacturing electric vehicles and range extenders. Its current model line comprises Neta Aya, Neta X, Neta S, and Neta GT. It started as a low-cost brand, but now Neta is slowly moving upmarket. Now, the fifth model in the Neta line was unveiled by the Chinese government. It will hit the market next year under Neta L’s name.

More on Neta L

Previously, Neta L was known by its code name EP32. It is a mid-size SUV that will rival BYD Son Plus and Tesla Model Y. Neta L stands on the Shanhai architecture that underpins Neta S sedan and Neta GT coupe. It adopts a new minimalistic design language. The shape of its front end has Mitsubishi Lancer X and Mitsubishi ASX vibes. The Neta L has a large air intake in the lower part of the front bumper. It also has retractable door handles, plastic trim on the fenders, and a single taillight unit.

The dimensions of the Neta L SUV are 4770/1900/1660 mm with a wheelbase of 2810 mm. It is 15 mm shorter and 8 mm lower than the BYD Song Plus (Seal-U). The Neta L has a 5-seat interior layout. Its front and rear tracks are 1613 mm and 1626 mm, respectively. The approach and departure angles are 18 and 21 degrees. The Neta L rides on two wheel options: 225/55 R19 and 225/60 R18.

Neta L EV powertrain

The all-electric Neta L was previously spotted in China during road tests with a FinDreams’ (BYD subsidiary) LFP battery pack on board. However, it was revealed that the Great Wall Motor’s SVOLT will supply packs to Neta L.

The Neta L EV has a curb weight of 1935 kg and a gross weight of 2310 kilograms. It has the TZ210XS001 170-kW (231 hp) electric motor on board. Its manufacturer is the CRRC Powertrain. There is a high possibility that this e-motor sits in the rear axle of the Neta L since entry-level Neta S and Neta GT also have RWD. Its top speed reaches 180 km/h. The battery pack of this SUV is LFP from SVOLT. But its capacity has yet to be revealed.

Neta L EREV powertrain

The Neta L with a range extender has the same e-motor for 170 kW (231 hp). But under the hood, this SUV has the H15R petrol-powered 1.5-liter engine from Dongfeng for 67 kW. Since it is a range extender, it doesn’t transfer any torque to the wheels, acting as a generator.

The Neta L EREV also has an LFP battery from SVOLT. Its capacity is 30 kWh. As a result, it can run up to 164 km on a single charge in full electric mode. The governmental regulator didn’t reveal its mixed range.

Neta L will enter the Chinese market in 2024. Since it rivals the BYD Song Plus, its price range will be around 150,000 – 250,000 yuan (21,000 – 35,000 USD). We will keep an eye on this vehicle, so stay tuned!
