BYD Tang is one of the oldest BYD families in the Chinese market. Its first generation was launched back in 2014. The second-generation BYD Tang entered the market in 2018 with electric and plug-in hybrid variants. In six years, it got several facelifts. Now, its DM-i PHEV variant gets another update that will probably boost the Tang series sales volume.

BYD Tang DM-i facelift

The new BYD Tang DM-i adopts the front end similar to the current Tang DM-p trim level. It has a large polygonal chrome-plated grille with scale-looking pattern. According to BYD, it represents the dragon scale. The front bumper of the Tang DM-i has glossy black trim panels and vertically aligned air flows. Its headlights remained the same. The chrome-plated element with a distinguishing Tang (唐) logo joins them.

From the side, the new Tang DM-i hasn’t changed much. It has blackened pillars and a suspended roof. In contrast with the current trend for retractable door handles, the BYD Tang DM-i adopts conventionally-designed handles. The taillight unit of the BYD Tang DM-i has an LED pattern that represents the Chinese knot. Every latest BYD model adopts this styling element.

Inside, the Tang DM-i adopts a large floating rotatable 15.6-inch screen, a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, and cool ambient lighting. It has seven seats. The powertrain of the BYD Tang DM-i adopts a 1.5-liter petrol-powered engine for 102 kW paired with a single electric motor for 160 kW. This system takes power from the LFP battery pack, which is suitable for 112 km of electric range.

The price tag of the updated BYD Tang DM-i has yet to be revealed. The current price range of this model is 209,800 – 249,800 yuan (29,150 – 34,700 USD). We will remind you that BYD also sells the Tang DM-p variant with two e-motors and 4WD that costs 269,800 – 309,800 yuan (37,500 – 43,000 USD).
