Geely’s troubled brand Livan prepared an answer to SGMW’s Wuling Mini EV

The Geely’s brand Livan prepared its answer to the Wuling Mini EV city car from GM’s Chinese joint venture. It is the Livan Smurf two-door hatchback based on the previously launched Geely Panda Mini EV. Named after a well-known Belgian comic franchise, this EV has a body length of 3,1 meters and a peak power of 40 hp.

Livan is a passenger car brand jointly founded by Geely Group and Lifan (owned by Geely). This brand focuses on manufacturing cars with swappable batteries for taxi services in China. However, its sales volume isn’t high, with 13,224 units sold from January to May 2025. On June 20, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed the newest Livan model called Smurf. It will take on the Wuling Mini EV in China.

More about Livan Smurf

The Livan Smurf is basically a rebadged version of the Geely Panda Mini. Therefore, it retains cute round headlights, a blocky body shape, and square taillights. You can distinguish the Smurf by its different bumpers and fuzzy heel covers. Its notable feature is, of course, a blue skin (body) with a white hat (roof).

Dimensions of the Livan Smurf are 3100/1558/1610 mm. Its wheelbase is just 2,015 mm. For clarity, it is 156 mm shorter than the new four-door Wuling Mini EV. The Smurf’s front and rear tracks are 1,315 mm and 1,311 mm, respectively. The car rides on small 14-inch wheels. And its curb weight is just 815 kg. However, the Smurf has four seats inside, providing okay practicality.

Livan Smurf powertrain

The Livan Smurf adopts the TZ160X30C electric motor with a peak power of 30 kW (40 hp), similar to the Geely Panda Mini. Its zero-to-hundred acceleration time is yes, as it is also the car’s top speed. The car adopts a Gotion-made LFP battery. Its capacity has yet to be revealed. It is most likely a similar battery pack that the Geely Panda Mini is using. We are talking about the 17.03 kWh pack for 210 km of CLTC range.

The entry-level Wuling Mini EV boasts a 30 kW e-motor powered by a 16.2 kWh battery for a 205 km range. So, the Livan Smurf is ahead of its major rival. However, the biggest challenge of this car is the brand power. Even the Geely Panda Mini didn’t succeed in outselling the Wuling Mini EV. So, its rebadged sibling with a white hat won’t do it either.
