The updated BYD Song Pro DM-i plug-in hybrid crossover will get a 33.3% electric range boost and flash charging due to a new battery pack. Specs of this model were released by the governmental regulator. The new Song Pro DM-i boasts an electric range of 200 km under WLTC conditions.
The BYD Song Pro is a long-running Chinese crossover. Its first generation was launched back in 2019 with ICE and PHEV powertrain variants. The latest version of this model entered the domestic market in January 2026 with a price range of 102,800 – 130,800 yuan (15,080 – 19,185 USD) before discounts.
Based on China EV DataTracker, BYD delivered 30,819 units of the Song Pro in Q1 2026, down 40.2% Year-Over-Year. This significant sales drop highlights that the world’s biggest NEV maker needs to launch a more competitive variant of the Song Pro DM-i. BYD got ready to launch the updated car with a bigger battery and fast charging capability.
BYD Song Pro with a bigger battery
The BYD Song Pro DM-i with a bigger battery was listed in the Catalog of Energy-Saving and New Energy Vehicle Models Eligible for Vehicle and Vessel Tax Reductions (Batch 84) published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on April 14.
According to the regulator’s information, the new version of the BYD Song Pro DM-i adopts an LFP battery manufactured by FinDreams. Its capacity reaches 34.275 kWh. The battery pack weighs 258 kg. It provides 200 km of electric range under WLTC conditions. The current top-trim Song Pro has a 26.6 km battery for 150 km of WLTC range (220 km CLTC).
It seems that the pure electric CLTC range of the new BYD Song Pro DM-i will reach 290 km. The Chinese ministry mentioned that the fuel consumption of this SUV with a drained battery pack is 4.6 liters per 100 km. The new battery pack of the BYD Song Pro DM-i supports the flash charging technology. It will be available to charge from 10% to 97% in around 9 minutes at BYD’s megawatt chargers.

The BYD Song Pro DM-i is a compact crossover with dimensions of 4735/1860/1690 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,712 mm. The car adopts the brand’s latest design language with thin headlights, a chrome-plated “Dragon Whisker” element, and a sizeable air intake. It has five seats inside.
The BYD Song Pro DM-i adopts a 1.5-liter ICE for 74 kW (99 hp). It works in pairs with a 120 kW (161 hp) electric motor. They power a front axle. The new version of this SUV will most likely be available with an optional DiPilot 300 (“God’s Eye B”) LiDAR-based assisted driving system.
